Light-emitting diodes (LEDs), solid-state light sources that deliver unrivalled energy efficiency, are gradually taking the place of traditional incandescent lighting. But while systems that provide warm hues of comfortably diffuse white light are now available, an element of mystery shrouds just how these LEDs function.
