Nano-cosmeceuticals Laboratory (NCM)

Research Area

Nano-cosmeceutical laboratory focuses on applying nanotechnology in novel cosmeceutical products, especially from Thai medicinal herbs. The core strengths are on formulation especially encapsulation in nanoparticle, nanoliposome, nanoemulsion, etc. The capability also includes testing of activity, efficacy for moisturization, anti-aging, whitening, anti-acne, anti-septic and anti-inflammatory applications.

Description

To develop nanoparticles of antihistamine herbal extract (ML3) to pursue the problem of strong and unpleasant odor of herbal extract using nanotechnology and polymers for encapsulation. In the first year, the amount of encapsulated herbal extract will be analyzed by TLC Densitometry using vitexin as a marker. Development of nanoparticles of antihistamine herbal extract with different technology and polymers will be performed. The percent recovery, size and size distribution, release characteristic and stability of preparation will also be investigated. In the second year, cream containing nanoparticles of antihistamine herbal extract (NanoML3) will be formulated. Vitexin in formulation and release characteristic of vitexin will be analyzed. The stability and efficacy of NanoML3 cream will also be investigated. Department of Medical Sciences, Ministry of Public Health will supply antihistamine herbal extract (ML3) and data of physicochemical properties, analytical method of active ingredient or marker (vitexin). National Nanotechnology will be responsible for facilities and conducting the research. The final result will be a prototype of a stable cream containing nanoparticles of antihistamine herbal extract. Efficacy and safety tests will be studied in the third year with responsibility of Department of Medical Sciences, Ministry of Public Health.
