{"id":2534,"date":"2011-05-30T12:17:39","date_gmt":"2011-05-30T05:17:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nano2.toolsmkt.com\/?p=2534"},"modified":"2011-05-30T12:17:39","modified_gmt":"2011-05-30T05:17:39","slug":"dramatically-raising-low-metal-recycling-rates-part-of-path-to-green-economy-unep","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nanotec.or.th\/en\/dramatically-raising-low-metal-recycling-rates-part-of-path-to-green-economy-unep\/","title":{"rendered":"Dramatically Raising Low Metal Recycling Rates Part of Path to Green Economy: UNEP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new report released this week by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) says that recycling rates of metals are far lower than their potential for re-use.\u00a0 <!--more-->According to the report, \u201cRecycling Rates of Metals: A Status Report\u201d, &#8220;In spite of significant efforts in a number of countries and regions, many metal recycling rates are discouragingly low, and a &#8216;recycling society&#8217; appears no more than a distant hope.&#8221;\u00a0 Achim Steiner, UN Undersecretary General and Executive Director of UNEP, said, &#8220;In theory, metals can be used over and over again, minimizing the need to mine and process virgin materials and thus saving substantial amounts of energy and water while minimizing environmental degradation.
