Committee Chairman Doc Hastings (R-WA) said, &#8220;It is imperative that we identify the roadblocks to meeting our national minerals needs so that we can become less dependent on foreign supplies, increase our national security, and create more American jobs by securing our manufacturing industry and revitalizing our economy.&#8221; China\u2019s decision to restrict rare earth exports is one of the main reasons behind the push for legislation to rework U.S. minerals and materials policy. The measure directs the Interior secretary to conduct and inventory of U.S. minerals, and review impediments to domestic production.
