Approximately 14 million people are estimated to die annually due to poverty related diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, human African trypanosomiasis, chagas disease, as well as HIV and Aids. Leading researchers in nanomedicine from developed countries have been invited to join top African researchers working on therapies against these diseases. African politicians and decision-makers that directly affect research, as well as representatives from the United Nations, World Health Organization, European Union and the African Union, have also been invited to participate.
