{"id":29365,"date":"2011-05-16T21:51:45","date_gmt":"2011-05-16T14:51:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nano2.toolsmkt.com\/?p=2417"},"modified":"2011-05-16T21:51:45","modified_gmt":"2011-05-16T14:51:45","slug":"tiny-particles-with-big-benefits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nanotec.or.th\/en\/tiny-particles-with-big-benefits\/","title":{"rendered":"Tiny Particles with Big Benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nanoparticles can be found in foods, energy drinks and dietary supplements, but most consumers are unaware they are ingesting these particles, because the United States Food and Drug Administration does not require such information to be printed on labels, according to this article.\u00a0 <!--more-->Identification of nanoparticles in food currently relies on self-reporting.\u00a0 The particles have the potential to improve foods, as nanoscale food components can be encapsulated and mixed with other foods in novel combinations. \u00a0One major new application of the technology could be a time-release mechanism in functional foods.\u00a0 Certain molecules would be activated when the body\u2019s levels of a particular nutrient were especially low.\u00a0 Similarly, nanotechnology could be used to enhance the vitamin benefit and antioxidant content in functional foods and supplements.\u00a0 Microcapsules could be developed that used nanotechnology to meet the nutrition needs of children in various countries and cultures.\u00a0 The article concludes: \u201cNanotechnology has a variety of potential uses in food that may offer health or nutritional benefits to the consumer, and market benefits to the food industry.
