Rao, Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India, said that none of India\u2019s premier institutions, including the Indian Institutes of Science (IISc) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), \u201ccan match the best in the world.\u201d\u00a0<!--more-->\u00a0Rao said that research in the country \u201cis sadly losing quality,\u201d despite the fact the number of facilities that conduct research is increasing.\u00a0 According to Rao, India has been a victim of lack of finances, but now is the time for the country to work hard and create technologies that can shape the new world.\u00a0\u00a0 Nanotechnology, he said, is one field in which India can take the lead.\u00a0 India needs to create cottage industries out of nanotechnology so that the country can leverage the achievements and make the best of \u201cour\u201d technology, he said.\u00a0 \u201cThe Chinese will in the next 20 years become the best in all fields but we (India) will linger around the fifth place,\u201d Rao predicted. \u201cWhy can\u2019t we be the number one?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.deccanherald.com\/content\/165540\/indias-institutions-below-par-cnr.html\">http:\/\/www.deccanherald.com\/content\/165540\/indias-institutions-below-par-cnr.html<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>C.N.R.
