Speaking at a recent conference in Bangkok on Nanotechnology in Thailand, Dr, Chalong Laochariyakul, Senior Director, NANOTEC Central Lab informed that Thailand is making exceptional progress in nanotechnology research. \u201cWith the upcoming single ASEAN economy in 2015, it is necessary for Thailand to leap frog in areas related to nanotechnology research\u201d said Dr. Chalong. \u201cWe have established university-based Centers of Excellence with 8 leading research universities in Thailand, including the Center of Excellence in Nanotechnology (CoEN) at Asian Institute of Technology, AIT. Our research flag ship focuses on clean water, controlled release fertilizers, vector control systems, nano-cosmeceuticals, nano labeling, smart soil, and nano biosensors. In addition, the new government has also informed that they will up the R&D spending to 2% of GDP. This is an exciting time for R&D in Thailand\u201d.<\/p>\n

Dr. Chalong represented NANOTEC as one of invited speakers at the AIT Day \u201cPortfolio Release 2011\u201d organized to celebrate AIT 52nd<\/sup> Anniversary at the Renaissance Hotel in Bangkok on September 5th<\/sup>, 2011. The Keynote Address was presented by Prof. Prabuddha Ganguli, CEO, VISION-IPR; Honorary, Scientific-Consultant for Innovation and IPR to the Government of India. The AIT Day is jointly organized by AIT, NSTDA, and NANOTEC and is aimed at unveiling AIT\u2019s nanotechnology accomplishments to industries and institutions.<\/p>\n
