The event brought together over 60 participants from academia, industry, and government agencies from both countries to advance research collaboration, knowledge exchange, and technology development in Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS).<\/p>\n<p>The event highlighted the growing importance of CCUS as a key enabler for achieving carbon neutrality and Net Zero emission targets in Thailand and the Republic of Korea. It was structured into two main parts: a Technical Knowledge Exchange in the morning and an MOU Signing Ceremony in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The morning session featured presentations from leading research institutions and universities from Thailand and the Republic of Korea. Key topics included national carbon neutrality policies, CO\u2082 storage and greenhouse gas accounting frameworks, and advanced carbon storage technologies such as shale characterization, CO\u2082 storage efficiency enhancement, artificial intelligence applications in digital rock physics, and real-time CO\u2082 plume monitoring. The talks demonstrated shared efforts by both countries to advance technologies that improve the safety and efficiency of geological CO\u2082 storage, while underscoring the importance of bilateral collaboration in addressing the technical complexity of CCS.<\/p>\n<p>The afternoon session concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), represented by the National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) on behalf of the Thailand CCUS Alliance (TCCA), and the Korea CCUS Association (KCCUS).<\/p>\n<p>Scope of Collaboration:<\/p>\n<p>The areas of cooperation include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<p>1. Policy and regulatory support aligned to Net Zero 2050 goals<\/p>\n<p>2. Promoting the CCUS value chain<\/p>\n<p>3. Knowledge sharing through existing and emerging CCUS projects<\/p>\n<p>4. Expert and student exchange programs<\/p>\n<p>5. Promoting knowledge exchange on transboundary CCS regulatory frameworks between the Parties<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Uracha Ruktanonchai, Executive Director of the National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC), remarked: &#8220;This MOU signing marks the beginning of collaboration between TCCA and KCCUS in exchanging knowledge and jointly developing CCUS technologies. This partnership will strengthen CCUS development in both Thailand and Korea and concretely support the advancement toward regional Net Zero goals.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. HoSeob Lee, Director General of the Korea CCUS Association, stated \u201cThe Republic of Korea and Thailand share similar industrial structures, where decarbonizing energy-intensive industries is essential to sustaining long-term competitiveness. In this context, CCUS serves as a strategic enabler of industrial transformation and carbon neutrality. The MOU signed today marks an important milestone in strengthening bilateral cooperation and lays the foundation for more systematic and practical collaboration. Through continued partnership and knowledge sharing, both countries are committed to advancing our shared transition toward carbon neutrality.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Pongvipa Lohsomboon, Senior Expert at Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI) and Chairperson of the TCCA Steering Committee, added: &#8220;CCUS technology is a critical mechanism for achieving Thailand&#8217;s Net Zero target under NDC 3.0. TCCA serves as a platform connecting government, industry, and academia to systematically advance CCUS development. This collaboration with Korea is particularly significant as it will strengthen workforce capacity building, enhance knowledge exchange, and accelerate the translation of research into practical industrial applications.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The MOU was signed by Dr. Uracha Ruktanonchai, Executive Director of the National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC), representing Thailand, and Dr. HoSeob Lee, Director General of the Korea CCUS Association (KCCUS), representing the Republic of Korea.<\/p>\n<p>The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Nirawat Thammajak, Director of the Program Management Unit for Technology and Innovation for Future Industries (PMU-B); Dr. Kajornsak Faungnawakij, <em>Senior Researcher and TCCA Project Leader,<\/em> Prof. Hyundon Shin, Professor of Energy Resources Engineering at Inha University; and Prof. Yoonkyung Kim, Professor of Economics at Ewha Womans University.<\/p>\n<p>This collaboration marks a significant milestone in strengthening academic, policy, and technological cooperation on CCUS between Thailand and the Republic of Korea.
