NanoThailand 2012 \u201cNanotechnology for the Benefit of Mankind\u201d kicks off this morning with delegates from 35 nations participating in the 3 days scientific conference at Pullman Raja Orchid Hotel in Khon Kaen.\u00a0Keynote speakers the morning included Prof. Makota Ogawa from Waseda University, Japan and Prof. Kenneth Dawson from University College Dublin, Ireland.<\/p>\n
\u201cMuch research in Khon Kaen University is clustered around 19 Centers of Excellence, and the Integrated Nanotechnology Research Center is on of these\u201d said Associate Prof. Dr. Kittichai Triratanasirichai, President of Khon Kaen University during his Opening Remarks. \u201cThe conference of this magnitude provides an excellent opportunity for local researchers to establish research networks with peers from around the world\u201d.<\/p>\n
Also invited to give an Opening Remarks is Prof. Sirirurg Songsivilai, President of Nanotechnology Association of Thailand. \u201cOne of the strategies of Thailand\u2019s 11th<\/sup> National Economic and Social Development Plan is to Develop Science and Technology, Research, and Innovation as a driving force for sustained and inclusive growth\u201d said Prof. Sirirurg. \u201cIt is therefore necessary for the government to create a supportive environment for science and technology one of which is to increase R&D funding to 1% of GDP\u201d.<\/p>\n Prof. Sirirurg went to inform participants that the conference will act as a platform to disseminate the latest research results, allowing cross-disciplinary exchange of knowledge to further advance both technological areas and to showcase latest inventions and innovations.<\/p>\n NanoThailand 2012 conference is being organized by Nanotechnology Association of Thailand, NANOKKU, National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC), and National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). Participants can attend 6 scientific sessions, a public forum on nanotechnology and society, including reviewing research exhibitions.
