{"id":3644,"date":"2012-05-24T16:53:28","date_gmt":"2012-05-24T09:53:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nano2.toolsmkt.com\/?p=3644"},"modified":"2012-05-24T16:53:28","modified_gmt":"2012-05-24T09:53:28","slug":"nano-talk-application-of-synchrotron-in-nanotechnology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nanotec.or.th\/en\/nano-talk-application-of-synchrotron-in-nanotechnology\/","title":{"rendered":"NANO Talk: Application of synchrotron in nanotechnology\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NANOTEC researchers attended a NANO Talk session on \u201cThe application of synchrotron in nanotechnology\u201d to better understand its application and explore ways to use synchrotron in their research activities. <!--more-->The speakers from Synchrotron Light Research Institute (SLRI) consisted of:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Supagorn Rugmai \u201cStructural studies of nano materials with synchrotron light\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Chanapa Khongmark and Dr. Chanan Euaruksakul \u201cPhotoemmission electron microscopy with nano materials\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany measurement techniques are available for studies of nano materials, with each specific technique giving specific information on the materials\u201d said Dr. Supagorn. \u201cAt nano scale, the material properties are usually complicated due to the interplay of various effects, contributing from atomic, molecular and larger scale structures. Structural information is therefore particularly important in understanding properties of the materials\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Supagorn talk focused on three measurement techniques:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS): a technique particularly useful for nano structural characterization. The technique can give information such as sizes and shapes of nano particles and molecular arrangement in soft materials,<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS): a exclusive synchrotron technique where information on local atomic environment can be obtained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Photoemission Electron Microscopy (PEEM): a technique used to probe structures of surfaces. The technique can provide chemical and electronic information of surfaces with lateral resolution below 1 micron.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPhotoemission electron spectroscopy (PEEM) is suitable for measuring properties of materials as thin as one atomic or molecular layer\u201d said Dr. Chana. \u201cWhen using electron beam as an illuminating source, it is also possible to obtain additional information via measurement known as low energy electron microscopy (LEEM)\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>NANOTEC has been allocated the use of Beamline #5 at SLRI for research purpose.
