NANOTEC Visits CSIRO Australia to Explore Advanced Technologies for Environmental, Agricultural, and Food Sustainability

On 19–20 August 2026, in Canberra, Australia, Dr. Uracha Ruktanonchai, Executive Director of the National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC), joined an NSTDA delegation on a visit to the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) at its Black Mountain Research Facility, held in conjunction with the official visit of the Prime Minister of Thailand to Australia.

The delegation explored key CSIRO research infrastructure and technologies, including the Australian National Soil Archive (ANSA), Precision Agriculture and Remote Sensing, and AquaWatch, focusing on applications in environmental monitoring, agriculture, and resource management.

NANOTEC expressed particular interest in CSIRO’s environmental monitoring technologies that integrate ground-based measurements with satellite data to continuously monitor soil, water, and environmental changes and build long-term datasets over 3–5 years. These capabilities could potentially be adapted for PM2.5 research in Thailand, supporting long-term monitoring and analysis of pollution sources, trends, and contributing factors.

NANOTEC also explored CSIRO’s Innovation in Food for Sustainability (IF4S) framework, which connects food science, technology, and innovation with industry, covering areas such as new foods, novel ingredients, and sustainable agrifood technologies. The framework offers potential for collaboration in translating food and agricultural research into applications addressing the needs of an ageing society and the prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
