Workshop on High Performance Computing and Modern Computer Technologies for Computational Scientists

“This is a very important topic for scientists and researchers especially given the government’s drive to push digital economy for speedy economic recovery ” said Prof. Dr. Supa Hannongbua, Head of Chemistry Department at Kasetsart University during her opening remarks. “We need to be aware of the trends of modern computer technology and its applications on various economic sectors such as agriculture, medical, biology, commerce, just to name a few”.

Over 70 people attended the workshop from research agencies, academia, and private sector. One of the attendee was Dr. Supawadee Namuangruk, Team Leader of Nanoscale Simulation Lab (SIM) at NANOTEC. When asked why she is attending the workshop, Dr. Supawadee said there needs to be better communication between software developers and the end-users. This workshop is helping to bridge the gap and creating a synergy between the two.

Also speaking at the workshop was Dr. Manaschai Kunaseth from NANOTEC SIM lab who gave a talk on “Fundamentals of computer science for computational scientist” and “Modern high-performance computing platforms and emerging computer technologies”. Dr. Sornthep Vannarat from NECTEC, eScience Consortium gave a talk on “Useful linux commands and bias PBS scripting and queuing concept for day-to-day operations”.

The workshop was organized by NSTDA, Kasetsart University, NECTEC, and NANOTEC.
