Collaboration Meeting between NANOTEC and SKKU

On May 20, 2021, NANOTEC together with Sungkyunkwan Advanced Institute of Nanotechnology (SAIN) of Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU. Republic of Korea) organized the 1st Meeting On Cooperation between Thailand and the Republic of Korea. The virtual meeting focused on the following objectives:

1) To continue cooperation in nanotechnology between Thailand and the Republic of Korea under the Initiative of H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Royal Initiative Project.

2) To strengthen relationship between SKKU alumni who have received a postdoctoral researcher scholarship, and played the role of advisor from Sungkyunkwan University.

3) To promote research cooperation and increase opportunities for joint research scholarships.

The event consisted of 2 activities: senior management meeting and academia/researcher technical symposium. Participants to the Senior management meeting consisted of Prof.Dr.Pairash Thajchayapong, Director and Secretary-General of the Foundation of Information Technology under the royal initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and Executive Chairman of NANOTEC Board, Dr. Wannee Chinsirikul, Executive Director NANOTEC, Professor Ji Beom Yoo, Professor at the School of Advanced Materials Science & Engineering and former Executive Vice President of Sungkyunkwan University. The meeting discussion focused on exploring ways to promote cooperation through postdoctoral research funding mechanisms, PhD scholarship Research and Development Cooperation,  as well as the idea to host annual academic conference between the two nation.

The academia/researcher symposium consisted of 15 lectures related to four-research focus: Energy, Biomedical, Quantum Information and QLED. The research focus areas was identified as common interest to researchers in both countries. A total of 5 Korean researchers and 10 Thai researchers participated as speakers. Seven of the Thai speakers have received postdoctoral scholarship to conduct research at Sungkyunkwan University.

Scientific collaboration under the initiative of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is very important and instrumental in strengthening scientific collaboration between the two countries. HRH visited SKKU in April 2013 with executives from PTT and Thai academia for a benchmarking study was a key and fruitful visit. Since then, there has been a couple of follow up visits in May of 2013 by SKKU to NSTDA, NANOTEC, and Chulalongkorn University and in August 2013 by NSTDA to SKKU. Success under this cooperation between SKKU and NANOTEC includes 26 internationally scientific publication, Thai students received academia supervision advice from Sungkyunkwan University advisors and successfully received doctorates and post doctorates degree.
