Electron gas conducts at insulating interface

A team of researchers from Denmark, Germany and China say that they have created a new type of highly conducting 2D electron gas at the interface between strontium titanate and alumina – two of nature’s most insulating ceramics. The gas might be used to make metallic interfaces for all-oxide electronics and even quantum mesoscopic devices….
