From Research to Safety Aspects

Prof. Herald Krug, Head of Department “Materials meet Life” at EMPA, Switzerland recently gave a talk on “Polymers and fibers with new functions for new applications – from research to safety aspects”. The talk was organized by NANOTEC and the Polymer Society of Thailand on March 13 at NSTDA.

“It is not possible to slow down technological advancement in polymer applications” said Prof. Krug. “What is important is being able to address and communicate from the beginning the various concern that may arise as a result of technology advancement because the end user is us – the human”.

According to Prof. Krug, nanosafety considerations has become a substantial part of many funding programs, international conferences, regulatory activities worldwide and many international working groups are taking care of this topic. He is pleased to see that Thailand is taking a proactive role in this subject as it is necessary if you want to promote the technology.

Prof. Krug is in currently in town on a 3 month Visiting Professor status with his wife Karin. He is attached to the Nano Safety and Risk Assessment Lab (SRA) and Nano Functional Textile Lat (NFT) at NANOTEC.  In addition, Prof. Krug is also a member of NANOTEC’s International Advisory Board (IAB) which meets annually in Thailand.
