Magnetic defects upset graphene electron spins

Spin lifetimes in graphene appear to be limited by magnetic defects. So say researchers at the University of British Columbia in Canada who have measured the resistivity and conductivity of the carbon material at ultra-low temperatures in varying magnetic fields. The results of the experiments could help in the development of improved graphene-based spintronics devices, they say.
