Malaria – Finding solutions for national and global health issues

Once again, the NANOTEC Mosquito Control flagship exhibition flew high at “Investing in Smarter drug design to overcome drug resistant malaria” part of NSTDA’s commemoration to World Malaria Day Conference 2014 – Invest in the Future, Defeat Malaria which was held at Century Park Hotel in Bangkok on May 1.

The vision of NANOTEC’s Mosquito Control flagship is to conduct R&D of anti-mosquito products with an aim to improve efficiency of mosquito prevention, focuses on industrial commercialization, and social impact.

NSTDA, BIOTEC, and Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) also used this opportunity to conduct a Signing Ceremony on Agreement of Preclinical Development of P218 between NSTDA and MMV.

“NSTDA joins a small group of forward-looking government research agencies in malaria-endemic countries who recognize the need to keep innovating through science to deliver solutions for national and global health issues like malaria” said Dr. Jorg Mohrle, Head of Translational Medicine at MMV in his speech on “Discovery and Development of New Medicines against Malaria”. Dr. Mohrle went on to say that new antimalarial compounds are urgently needed to cure, overcome resistance, block malaria transmission and tackle all species of the malaria parasite, quickly and efficiently.
