Thailand is emerging as a key player in the area of nanotechnology in the region. Several key factors are contributing to the country gaining investors’ interest in nanotechnology investment such as strategic location, strong economic essentials, infrastructure, and R&D capabilities.

With such an immense interest in nanotechnology, there is a need to understand the consequences of nanotechnology development and its application. NANO-SAFETY must be addressed in a systematic manner to ensure that the key elements are investigated and methodologies developed to provide safety for people and the environment.

The National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) recognizes the importance of promoting public awareness to nanosafety and has organized several public sessions on nanosafety in the past. This NANO Talk session on “Understanding Nano-Safety” by Prof. Lerson Tanasugarn will look at issues related to nanotechnology development, its implication to safety of researchers and consumers, update on public awareness campaign, and the push for the establishment of a national nano-safety strategic plan to be presented to the cabinet.
