Pathum Thani, Thailand — 27 August 2026 — The National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC), under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), welcomed a delegation from the MIT Center for Biomedical Innovation (CBI) to explore opportunities for research collaboration in water quality monitoring and environmental technologies.
Prof. Siwaporn Meejoo Smith, Deputy Executive Director of NANOTEC, welcomed the delegation and presented an overview of NANOTEC’s research capabilities and expertise. The meeting focused on the development of rapid, low-cost, and user-friendly sensors for water quality monitoring, particularly for detecting heavy metals and other contaminants. Both sides also discussed opportunities to validate sensor performance using real water samples alongside standard laboratory methods.
As a concrete next step, MIT plans to bring its electrochemical reader to NANOTEC in October 2026 for testing with NANOTEC’s sensor technologies and real water samples. The two sides will also explore further collaboration in water treatment, remediation, and technology commercialization. This engagement aligns with NANOTEC’s Water and Environment Solution strategic focus, one of its four Strategic Focus (4SF) areas, reflecting the Center’s ongoing commitment to advancing research and innovation that supports sustainable water quality and environmental management.
