Seminar on Cosmeceutical Development for AEC opens

The Asean Economic Community (AEC) will come of age in 2015 and with a population of about 500 million, a combined GDP of USD 800 billion, and a combined trade value of USD 800 billion, it is an economic force to be reckoned with. For this reason, rules and regulations pertaining to R&D must follow international standardization. The R&D of cosmeceutical products is a good example where international standardization will play an important role and local producers must be aware of these regulations if they want to compete effectively.

On April 1, NANOTEC joined the NSTDA Annual Conference 2013 (NAC 2013) to organize a seminar at Thailand Science Park under the theme “Cosmeceuticals Development for AEC by S&T”. The seminar focus on exploring ways to create an ASEAN Harmonization for cosmeceutical development such as cosmetic regulations, market compliance, market strategy, testing, and clinical evaluation.

“2 years is not a very long time therefore it is necessary for local cosmetic and herbs related companies to work to try and get their business on line with international standards and regulations” said Prof. Sirirurg Songsivilai, Executive Director of NANOTEC in his opening speech. “Having the opportunity to listen to experts from Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO), research agencies, etc will provide important information that is/are crucial to your business success”.

Over 100 participants from public, academia, and private sector attended the seminar.
