Teachers Restrict Sunscreens over Safety Concerns

Teachers are concerned about the use of sunscreen containing nanoparticles. (ABC News)

The Australian Education Union says sunscreen with nanoparticles pose unacceptable safety risks, and has passed a resolution that calls on teachers to only use sunscreen free of nanoparticles.  Mary Bluett, the Union’s Victorian president, said, “There is a growing body of research that cautions around these very very tiny particles and how they can be transmitted through the skin.  While we don’t know the potential impact, there are worrying signs.” While the Australian Cancer Council says there is no evidence that such particles pose a risk, it is fine to restrict the type of sunscreens, as long as schools keep providing them to students.
