Prof. Sirirurg

More than 30 international experts on nanotechnology and policy makers, will converge in the province of Khon Kaen,Thailand from April 9-11, 2012 for the NanoThailand 2012 “Nanotechnology for the benefit of mankind”.

From USA, Europe, Asia and Thailand, they will share insights and perspectives when considering materials in the nano scale.

World renowned and award-winning chemist, Professor Kenneth Dawson, Chair of Physical Chemistry, School of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, is one of four keynote speakers who will expound his views on the interaction between nanoscale structures and living matter, such as cells and tissue. As a representative of Ireland on the PESC (Physical & Engineering Sciences Committee) of the European Science Foundation, he will also share his views on matters related to policy that is of significant importance for the sustainability of our global environment.

Organizers of the conference included the Nanotechnology Association of Thailand, Khon Kaen University, National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC), and National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA).

“The Thai government acknowledges the importance of nanotechnology development as a tool to stimulate and leapfrog in key areas of S&T” said Prof. Sirirurg Songsivilai, President of Nanotechnology Association of Thailand. “We are investing in areas related to R&D, technology transfer, and human resource development for this reason; NanoThailand 2012 is a valuable input to achieving our investment goal”.

Thailand will celebrate the Thai New Year (Songkran Festival) during the first week of April. Participants to the conference can also use this opportunity to experience first hand the local cultural festival.
