Researchers in Israel, the US and Italy, say that they have observed a “Wigner molecule” in an ultraclean carbon nanotube. As well as confirming a theoretical prediction that dates back to the 1930s, the observation also proves that extremely clean structures, like carbon nanotubes, can be used to manipulate delicate electronic states that do not otherwise exist in ordinary materials……….
