Ministry of Science and VEC collaborate to promote knowledge in nanotechnology

Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education collaborate to kick-start training program in nanotechnology to support country strategy.

The Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education have joined force to contribute and support the government country strategy plan to upgrade the Thai economy by “moving up the value chain”. The two ministries have identified the areas related to nano fertilizer and multifunctional fabric as the focus of their collaboration effort.

The Ministry of Science and Technology will seek the involvement of the National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) under the National Science Development Agency (NSTDA) and the Ministry of Education will involve the science teachers under the Vocational Education Commission (VEC) to promote knowledge and awareness in nanotechnology both for curriculum development and establishing training centers in key provinces under the jurisdiction of the VEC

The Opening Ceremony to mark the first of four training sessions was organized on April 4 at Thailand Science Park. The ceremony was officiated by H.E. Mr. Woravat Auapinyakul, Minister of Science and Technology and Mr. Chaiyapreuk Serirak, Secretary-General, Office of VEC, Ministry of Education. Over 50 vocational education teachers are confirmed to participate in the first training program which will conclude on April 6.

“The work of the Ministry of Science must be accessible and play the role of operational to the public” said Minister Woravat. “The decision to partner with VEC is a good complimentary match as VEC can play the operational role and the research agencies under the Ministry of Science can provide the technical support. This approach will enhance Thailand’s competitiveness as we enter AEC in 2015”.

Echoing the comment on Thailand’s competitiveness, Mr. Chaiyapruek said VEC must focus on becoming more S&T knowledge base. He went on to say that awareness and knowledge in nanotechnology is a good start and he foresees additional activities as coming forth from this partnership.
