QAcnes won business pitch award at NSTDA Investor’s Day

QAcnes an anti acne pad made from nano encapsulation of mangosten extract won both Best Presentation Award and Outstanding Investor’s Choice Award at NSTDA Investor’s Day 2012 on September 20. Dr. Phikunthong Kopermsub a researcher at Nano-Delivery Lab (NANOTEC) presented the business pitch to over 300 investors and interested participants.

“The pad is effective and can be use along with any facial makeup application” said Dr. Phikunthong. “The nano encapsulation of the mangosten extract helps in easing the discomfort associated with acne and leaves no scare marks to the end-user”. Dr. Phikunthong went on to say that competition in the Acne Market is Strong and market research suggests that the global acne market is estimated to reach revenues of $3.02 billion by 2016. Solodyn (minocycline hydrochloride) currently rules the acne market, followed by Doryx (doxycycline). However, consumer trends show an increase interest in products that are considered non-chemical and made from natural compound extracts. For this reason, QAcnes is an interesting business opportunity for those die hard business person to consider.

Also pitching from NANOTEC is Dr. Kajornsak Faungnawakij, Head of Nanomaterials for Energy and Catalysis Lab on a research product called “Eco-Catal”. Eco-Catal uses egg shell to produce nano-catalyst for bio diesel production. The lab has been pursuing research and development activities on nanomaterial technology including synthesis, processing and utilization of nanomaterials in catalysis and energy-conversion for hydrogen energy and biofuels. Waste shell from eggs has been known to have important properties for increasing the yield of hydrocarbon fraction.

H.E. General Yuthasak Sasiprapha, Deputy Prime Minister was invited to give an Opening Remark in which he stressed the need for both private and research community to work together to enhance economic competitiveness. A total of 9 research highlights were pitched this year for private investors to consider as investment opportunity.
