Season’s Greetings from the Executive Director

ON BEHALF OF MY COLLEAGUES AT NANOTEC, MAY I WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY A HEALTHY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.

2011 is the Year of the Rabbit and the UN International Year of the Forest. I am happy to share with you some of the highlight activities which will transpire at NANOTEC in the coming year.

Firstly, NANOTEC is looking forward to welcoming the return of many of our researchers who have completed their studies and/or research assignments overseas. Their return will greatly enhance the human resource capacities and certainly help increase the number of quality research projects which we plan to undertake in the coming year.

Secondly, the launch of the Nanotechnology Association of Thailand in October of 2010 will help to strengthen the working relationship between industries, researchers, and policy makers in the coming year. The association is looking to launching NanoQ as the nation’s certification mark to building consumers’ confident and setting the industrial standards for nanotechnology related products in Thailand.

Thirdly, NANOTEC and Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB) will co-host the International Nanobiotechnology Symposium from March 24-25 at Thailand Science Park. The symposium will provide opportunity for Thai and Korea researchers to interact and share research findings in the area of Nanobiosensors, Nanobioimaging, Novel Drug Delivery, Nanomedicine, and Nanostructure for analytics. The symposium will be part of the NSTDA Annual Conference 2011 (NAC 2011) and is free and open to the general public.

In addition, NANOTEC is looking forward to moving to our new home in Thailand Science Park INC II sometime in October. The new site will include both the administration and research facilities under one roof.  INC II comprises 4 inter-connected towers which creates over 124,000 sq.m. of total floor area. It is built around the concept of “Work-Life Integration” and is designed to create an environment conducive for both research activities and everyday living. INC 2 aims to adapt to the ever-changing needs of today’s knowledge workers.

Finally, NANOTEC will form a Thailand Team consisting of Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) and Thailand Science Park (TSP) to participate at Nano tech 2011 in Tokyo Big Sight, Tokyo in February 16-18. The goal is to create visibility and to encourage opportunities for collaboration in areas related to research and investment. If you are planning to visit Tokyo in February, please do visit us at Thailand booth# B – 35.

Once again, I would like to forward my very best wishes to you and yours in 2011.
