The OECD Expert Meeting of the TiO2 Sponsorship group

Recently the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation Development) organized the Expert Meeting of the TiO2 Sponsorship Group (OECD’s Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials) in Paris, France from 17th – 18th January 2011. Attending the meeting on behalf of NANOTEC was Dr. Rawiwan Maniratanachote (NanoSafety Lab).

“The meeting provided a venue for sharing of experiences and information on nanosafety techniques in Nanotoxicology and Environment” said Dr. Rawiwan. “In addition, the meeting also allow for an opportunity to discuss collaborative activities with experts such as the meeting with Dr. Peter Kearns (OECD) and Dr. Lang Tran (UK) who proposed the idea of setting up a Meeting Group on Nanosafety among countries in Asia, including Thailand”.

The objectives of the Expert Meeting are to discuss and exchange information regarding: i) handling TiO2 and sample preparation; ii) the applicability of OECD test guidelines for TiO2 nanomaterials; and iii) tiered approaches including alternative/ intelligent testing.
