Re-establishing research initiatives in Korea (part 2)

On 12 February 2019 (morning), NANOTEC Team led by Dr. Wannee Chinsirikul visited Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), Daejeon, South Korea. Dr. Dong-Jin Yoon, Director of Division of Industrial Metrology and Dr. Tae Geol Lee, Head of Center for Nano-Bio Measurement and Center for Nanosafety Metrology welcomed NANOTEC delegates. This visit aims to establish collaboration on Nano Safety, Nano Characterization and Advanced Nano-bio-imaging technology to push NANOTEC forward in a role of development the international standards in nanoproduct testing and certification.

Apart from a visit to KRISS, Dr. Wannee Chinsirikul, Executive Director, led NANOTEC team to visit Korea Institute of Toxicology (KIT). Dr. Chang-Woo Song (President), Dr. Eun Ju Jeong (Vice President) and Dr. Seokjoo Yoon (Director of Department of Predictive Toxicology) welcomed the group. The visit of KIT included a visit to two campus which are KIT Daejeon and KIT Jeonbuk Department of Inhalation Research. KIT Laboratory completed the Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) certification. The objective of KIT’ labs focus on improving public health and increasing human welfare by leading the research development on safety assessment technologies and providing test services specializing in relevant fields.

Apart from lab facilities tour, KIT organized the 1st KIT-NANOTEC Joint Research Meeting. The meeting aimed to strengthen research collaboration on Nanotoxicology.

NANOTEC and KIT established collaboration in 2017. In 2018, Dr. Wittaya Pimtong, NANOTEC researcher awarded The International Scholar Exchange Fellowship (ISEF) of Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies (KFAS). He is currently conducting his research on “Study of Hepatotoxicity and Pharmaceutical Properties of Alpha-Mangostin Using Transgenic Fish” at KIT under supervision of Dr. Woo-Keun Kim, Group Leader of System Toxicology Research Center for 6 months (September 2018 – February 2019).
