NANOTEC, NSTDA led Nano Innovation to the Krabi’s community according to the BCG economic model

[16 November 2021] National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) in collaboration with the Krabi Provincial Hotel Association led Nano Innovation to the Krabi’s community according to the BCG economic model. This project is aimed to promote Krabi province to be a representative area in the project “Drive the area-based development with integrated science and technology to application in Krabi province”

NANOTEC has presented guidelines for the introduction of nanotechnology and innovations to drive local tourism and economy according to Thailand development plan with the concept of BCG Economy (Bio-Circular-Green Economy). These protocols could help developing local resources into the business products building sustainable community, such as, upgrading local medicinal plants into high-value products.

In this regard, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister along with Prof. Dr. Sirirurg Songsivilai, Permanent Secretary of MHESI had joined the event and visited the NANOTEC research showcase “Khlu leaf extract” presented by Ms. Waleewan Eaknai, Senior Research Assistant, Nanolife and Cosmeceuticals Research Team, NANOTEC at Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort, Krabi.

Khlu is a local plant containing active agents that have antioxidant activity. It has been developed to be commercial products, such as, shower cream and shampoo. These products were sold as the complimentary toiletries in the hotels and the souvenirs of the province. This is an example for developing local products with science and technology regarding to BCG model.
