On February 24, the Vocational Education Commission organized a 3 days workshop on “Knowledge Development in nanotechnology for S&T and Innovation in Vocational Education colleges”.

Members of the Training for the trainer in nanotechnology (TTN) (Group 1-3) organized a two days workshop entitled “Nanotechnology 101” at Trium Udom Lum Lukka High School from Feb 23-24.

On February 8, H.E. Dr. Virachai Virameteekul, Thailand Minister of Science and Technology was the guest of honor to witness the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony between National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and RIKEN, Japan at RIKEN HQ in Wako, Saitama.

Tokyo Big Sight was the venue for the 10th International Nanotechnology conference & exhibition “nano tech 2011”.

The 5th Lets Talk..Science (Talk Show) was held last Saturday at Chamchuri Square in Bangkok. The title of the talk show was “The Miracle of Nanotechnology adds value to tainted glass production”. Dr. Nuttapun Supaka, Head of Testing and Service Lab at NANOTEC was the guest speaker.

The National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) initiated a project in 2008 which have caused significant multiplying effect to building human resource to help promote public awareness in nanotechnology development.

Visiting speakers are considered blessing in disguise to research communities. They help contribute to building awareness to updated research information and at the same time, support in building research networks especially to upcoming researchers.

Recently the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation Development) organized the Expert Meeting of the TiO2 Sponsorship Group (OECD’s Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials) in Paris, France from 17th – 18th January 2011.

Nanomedicine is the medical application of nanotechnology. The approaches to nanomedicine range from the medical use of nanomaterials, to nanoelectronic biosensors, and even possible future applications of molecular nanotechnology.

Cosmeceuticals represent the marriage of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Examples of products typically labeled as cosmeceuticals include anti-aging creams and moisturizers (Wikipedia).

There is no doubt that Thailand is emerging as a key player in the arena of nanotechnology in the region. Several key factors are contributing to the country gaining investors’ interest in nanotechnology investment

On Jan 10, 2011 NANOTEC played host to the visit of Prof. Dr. Vincent T. Remcho, Associate Dean for Research at Oregon State University, USA.

Recently, three Thai scholarship students took the opportunity during their year-end school break to visit families in Thailand and also gave presentations of their research projects to senior research colleagues at NANOTEC.
